I'm trying to use all of my yarn so I don't have to move it.
This scarf is a lovely aquamarine, with a pattern of waves and scalloped edges. It makes me think of the ocean- warm thoughts for cold days.
Available on Etsy. (The first official listing for MonkeyLand Originals!) My old Etsy is still here.
Made from black ribbon. Yay!
Available on Etsy.
Times, they are a changin'.
For the moment, the old Etsy address is still valid. As things expire, I'll move them over. As I list new things, I'll be doing it on the new profile.
A friend of mine has been having a rough time lately, so as a show of support (and to use end balls of yarn) I made her a prayer scarf. I realize that gifts like this are often symbolic- it won't REALLY heal her mind or her body. But God is love, and this scarf is love, so I hope that when she touches it that maybe God might deign to touch her in return.
Today will be spent upcycling old sheets into useful things, and of course I'll be selling a lot of them on Etsy. Like this one:
My daughter is madly in love with the Care Bears. My mother-in-law gave her a set of pink Care Bear sheets for her bed. The sad thing was that the sheets were for a toddler bed and my big girl has graduated to a full size bed. My daughter, missing her sheets, got into the habit of digging them out of the basket of bedding and wrapping them around herself like a toga.
So, in true the Sound of Music form I decided that I could take what was laying around the house and make her some play clothes. Hence; Alana's new dress!
The dress is made from the sheets, with cute little ties from a play hat that doesn't fit anymore. My daughter insisted on wearing it immediately (she sat impatiently while I was cutting and sewing, stroking the fabric and asking when she could have it back) so I haven't trimmed off the excess threads or pressed the seams. In any case, I think that it's an adorable little thing for her to wear and I purposefully made it two sizes too big so she can wear it for a while.
My Etsy store now carries pillows!
One thing I love about being able to make jewelry is having the ability to replace custom pieces that have been lost or stolen. Recently I had the the pleasure of being commissioned to do so for my own mom. The necklaces to these earrings were stolen, but since I had the earrings to go on I was fairly confident I could replace that which was lost:
The second necklace was white and fuchsia glass pearls. One would think that matching beads would be easy to find- but this is the WRONG season to be looking for fuchsia! After banging my head against the wall for a while, I found glass pearls and pearl coated fuchsia druk beads. That was the closest I could find. The picture online made them look opaque, and they look opaque in the sunlight. Unfortunately in artificial light they look clear.
Hopefully my mom doesn't mind!
Here it is:
This necklace was a commissioned piece for someone's mother. I'm really happy with how it turned out. All gold plated, and for under $20!
Prayer boxes can hold tiny folded papers (like fortunes from fortune cookies) or any number of things. I've seen women put their children's birthstones in them, which I think is terribly sweet.
